The Team Behind Surge – Averon (Coach A) & Brandon (Coach B) Story

The heart of Surge Baseball & Softball started with a competitive 7U game in Corinth, Texas, where Averon Edwards and Brandon Mabry first faced off as coaches on opposite sides. What began as a spirited matchup quickly turned into a strong friendship built on mutual respect and a shared passion for developing young athletes. (If you have time ask them about this experience, you'll laugh.)

They soon realized they had the same vision to build something meaningful for the community. Together, they founded Baseball & Softball Unlimited Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on mentoring athletes, keeping costs down for families, and using baseball and softball as tools to teach life lessons.

To this day, neither Averon nor Brandon has taken a single dollar from the organization. In fact, both continue to personally support athletes and programs, reinforcing that Surge is and always will be about the kids, not the adults.

Their commitment has also led to the creation of Surge Baseball Academy, a growing indoor facility designed to serve athletes year-round and provide a space for skill development, mentorship, and community impact.

Averon and Brandon are fully committed to the long-term success of Surge Baseball & Softball and its mission to develop complete student-athletes. Through partnership and leadership, they strive to ensure that every child in the program is equipped not just to succeed on the field, but to thrive in life with purpose, character, and faith off the field.

With Brandon and Averon establishing a strong Board of Directors, Surge is positioned to become the premier youth baseball and softball organization in DFW one that families are proud to be part of.

Brandon Mabry, known to players and families as “Coach B,” is the Co-Founder and Vice President of Surge Baseball & Softball, operated under Baseball & Softball Unlimited Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. With nearly a decade of youth coaching experience, Coach B brings a powerful combination of leadership, athletic experience, faith-based mentorship, and community service to the organization.

His broad athletic background enhances his coaching style, showing young athletes how discipline and skills from various sports can be applied to excel on the baseball diamond.

At the heart of Coach B’s approach is his strong Christian faith and a deep desire to pour into the lives of young athletes, developing not only their abilities on the field, but more importantly, their character, values, and identity off of it. He believes in using baseball as a platform to teach life lessons, instill discipline, and grow boys into men prepared for success far beyond the game.

Coach B holds his players to high standards in all areas of life athletics, academics, and personal conduct. He challenges athletes to become leaders in their schools, in their homes, and in their communities. His coaching philosophy emphasizes mental toughness, respect, integrity, and a servant-hearted mindset.

The Heart Behind the Board – Leading Surge with Purpose

At the core of Surge Baseball & Softball is more than a game it’s a mission. A mission to shape young athletes into strong competitors, confident leaders, and outstanding people. That mission is carried forward by a dedicated group of individuals who make up our Board of Directors.

Each board member brings their own story, skills, and strengths to the table, but they’re united by one belief: youth sports should be about the players not the politics, the ego, or the scoreboard. Our board exists to ensure that every decision we make, every dollar spent, and every opportunity created is focused on development, character, and community.

These aren’t just volunteers they are parents, professionals, and mentors who are here for one reason: to help build something special. Something that lasts. Something that matters.

They’ve stepped up to lead because they believe in the vision of Surge to provide affordable, high-level baseball and softball experiences without sacrificing integrity or purpose. They understand the pressures families face, the value of proper mentorship, and the importance of creating a culture where players grow both athletically and personally.

This board is committed to transparency, accountability, and building trust within the Surge family. Through strategic planning, fundraising, facility growth, and leadership support, they are helping turn that vision into a reality.

Together, we’re not just building teams we’re building a legacy. One that will continue to shape lives, fuel dreams, and make Surge the standard in youth baseball and softball across DFW.

Alex Calvo

I have been involved with softball both on and off the field, as a player, team mom & coach. I believe in creating a positive and great environment for all players & parents.

I feel I bring not only a deep knowledge of the game but also a strong understanding of how to effectively communicate with parents and support each athlete’s development. My goal is always to help young players grow both on and off the field. I look forward to working together to make a positive impact to Surge Softball and its future.

In addition to softball, I assist my father in running the Texas State Meets for the WABDL (World Association of Benchers and Dead lifters), where I mentor young women in strength training and powerlifting, a sport I’ve also competed in myself. Helping shape confident, strong, and disciplined athletes is something I am passionate about.

A little about me I’ve been an Asset Specialist with KAG Energy for the past six years. I’m also a proud baseball dad to my son, Noah, who will be playing for Surge 14U-Gold this season.

When we’re not at the ballfield, you can usually find Noah and me at the batting cages or practicing together we love the game! Outside of youth baseball, I stay active playing on two different adult softball teams. In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and you’ll often catch us out and about, always looking for the next adventure.

I’m excited to support our players and families by helping organize successful fundraisers. My goal is to make fundraising fun, effective, and impactful to help ease the financial burden for all our families. Let’s work together to make this a great season on and off the field!

My name is Maegan Dominguez, and I live in Highland Village with my husband, Rudy, and our four kids, Brody (15), Jionni (12), Kenzie (11), and Taylee (5). Both Rudy and I graduated from Lewisville High School, and we’re proud to be raising our family in the same community that shaped us.

Our family is always on the go with sports, and we truly love being part of the baseball and softball world. I played softball growing up, so it’s been especially meaningful to watch our kids fall in love with the game and build lifelong friendships through it.
