Wes Shivers is the current Head Coach of Surge Gold 10U and Surge 13U. Coach Wes has been coaching baseball for 17 seasons and has had success from the 7U level through 18U level developing players.
Coach Wes has led several teams to the level of Majors and has coached several players who have and are actively playing at the collegiate level. The following is the list of teams he has led or assisted and their success:
10U Stix – D3 to D2 (2013 – 2015)
11U Desperados – D3 to D2 (2015 – 2016)
12U Rattler Elite – D2 to D1 (2016 – 2018)
7U Recreational (2020 – 2021)
7U Rec All Stars (2021)

9U Warstic Denton Black – D3 to D2 (2022)

Coach Wes’ most recent success was in the Spring 2023 season with 9U Warstic Gold entering 12 tournaments and finishing 1st or 2nd place in 9! The team’s success is the result of an intense focus on fundamental baseball and an All-Star staff of coaches! This staff is the real deal and are always putting in extra time and effort to help each kid get to the next level or to get them back on pace.
When Coach Wes isn’t coaching, he is making custom wood bats in his garage (Shivers Timbers Custom Wood Bats) or giving baseball lessons.
Brandon Mabry (Coach B) is the Assistant Coach of 10U Surge Gold and the Vice President of the Surge Baseball organization. Coach B has been coaching youth baseball for seven years with two of those years with Coach Wes and Coach Averon.
Coach B played High School baseball and basketball at Denton High School from 2002 – 2006. He graduated from University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2011 and earned his Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M – Commerce in 2020.
Coach B played semi-pro basketball for 4 years and played competitive adult flag football and softball. Although he did not continue with baseball after High School, he is a multi-sport athlete who understands the benefits other sports can provide when competing on the diamond.
Coach B enjoys sharing his love for baseball with the youth while being fundamentally focused in all aspects of the game. Athletes are pushed mentally and physically to not only be better ball players but also be better individuals off the field and in school.
